Baby Greenhouse Birth Stories

Pebblesnbambam's Robbie arrived at 35 weeks
The Duty MW told my husband that she doubted very much that I was in labour as I was only 35 weeks and that I probably had a urine infection but to go to the hospital in Hannover (which was an hour away) and they would check me over and give me something for the pain.

Michellesradford's Harry eventually arrived safely
Well I was 11 days overdue and went into hospital at 8 am on 27th July to be induced. I was monitored but baby was moving a lot and they couldnt get a good reading. Then the Dr went to the Theatre and there were more excuses to follow.. They said they were busy on labour ward so if I was induced they couldnt take me down.

Sues' Imogen was delivered in water
The pains were increasing all the time so I got DH to get the tens machine out and read the instructions! We put that on and I started at the lower setting – within an hour or so I was up to maximum settings and the tens wasn’t being as affective as it had been – it was 2.30pm and I decided it was time for hospital so we set off.

Nat had a very natural birth for her third baby
While waiting for the cord to stop pulsing and cleaning mucus from her face and mouth, the midwife informed us she has the cord rapped round her neck, body and foot, and that it was only 7:28 am she also said that it was amazing to see somebody breath out a baby, she never knew it could be done, and had never heard of the technique.

The Pixie lets her husband recount her labour and birth
Nicky had a really rough labour and at one point was an inch from a c-section.

Amy's daughter arrived safely after a c-section
I was very tired and stressed by this stage and after much discussion, we decided that I should have a c-section the following morning.

Happydenial's elective c-section was riddled with problems, thankully Evie-Mae arrived safely
By 12.30 I could no longer move my head and the nurses got a bit concerned and rang theatre. The anaethetist said I was probably de-hydrated and to put me on a drip. By this time I was convinced they would cancel the op, and to be honest, I felt so ill, I didnt really care! The first attempt at putting me on the drip didnt work, they removed it,put it in the other arm, and within half an hour I started to feel better!

Luan had an elective c-section for Caitlyn
Anyway I was visited by all midwives who wanted to get onto film lol I felt like a film star and was treated very very well. Then the anethethtist and surgeon came to do thier bits.. 9.15am I was gowned and Jim was booted and gowned and we strolled down to the theatre.. Nerves started to kick in and karens expertese on support kicked in.

Tommy got stuck and had a bit of a traumatic time when Joey77 gave birth to him
I then asked for some pain relief but as my midwife had just gone for a break I was offered a tens machine to try till she came back as the other midwife didn’t want to step on my midwives toes and give me drugs! The tens machine was crap! It pissed me off really soon and was turned off quite quickly!

Kel didn't want to give birth on the motorway
We were talking about should we chance the traffic on the bank hol mon or as dh had tue off leave tue morning instead???? I said I can't bear the thought of being so pg and stuck in traffic so lets do it tue, so stayed with MIL one extra night.

Moomum was in labour 6 hours 45 minutes and her son weighed 6lb 7oz
People kept coming up to me and asking if it was true I was in labour, I just kept saying it was probably a false alarm, and it could be weeks yet. It was all getting a bit more serious when I was driving home (no other drivers!), with contractions lasting a good 30 seconds and getting more frequent.

SarahM hoped for a water birth with Joseph
First thing I say to the MW is that I'm desperate for a wee...so off I go....waters break (in the toilet fortunatly) and I suddenly get the urge to push (3.40am) - so still standing in coat, scarves, boots etc...quick puff on gas & air - have jeans whipped off, quick examination 'oh yes theres the head, start pushing'

Stephi103 was diagnosed with pre-eclampsia when she was pregnant with Tyler
Whilst she was examining me she told me with all excitement that I was 2cm(thought to myself dont tell me that im in this much pain and I have only gone half cm!!! I was having a contraction and I felt it became very wet inbetween my legs. I asked her have my waters just broken? Well what water I still had left! at that point little mans heart rate dropped alot and I was told to lie on my side and they rushed me down to the labour ward as I was still up on the antenatal ward. I think I scared the hell out of the ladys that were still due to have their babies!!!

LisaG's twins Adam and Sam were delivered after a natural birth
Well, as soon as I lay on my side my body started involuntary pushing - I shouted out "Oh God - I'm pushing" and heard the midwife say "Go ahead and do what your body is telling you to do, I see the head and you are fully dilated". At this point I was biting hard on the gas and air tube sucking for all my life, listening to garage music on the radio and suddenly blurted out "I feel like I'm at a rave .. not that I've been to a rave before" - the entonox was making me feel really high and the music from the radio was whistling in my ears .. it was all so surreal!!

Reece was breech so Andie had a c-section
The radiographer asked me if I knew that my baby was breech and I said that I didn't. The consultant booked me in for a c-section on 7th September but he wanted me to go for an ECV (External Cephalic Version) first to see if they could turn the baby from the outside. They couldn't and it was the most uncomfortable experience I'd ever had (apart from the m/c). So I was booked in for my c-section.

Garfields Sean was born at 34+6 weeks
My waters broke about 3.30am last Tuesday, I could feel them coming so I jumped out of bed and it gushed onto the bedroom carpet, so much for having low fluid levels. The day before I had bought a waterproof mattress protector but hadn’t got round to putting it on the bed.

Garfield had quite a traumatic time after Rowan's delivery
I never had contraction pain like this with Sean, the pains were so intense this time. The mw examined me and I was already 5cm dilated. I did want to use the pool but don’t think there was enough time. I tried using gas and air but it made me gag straight away so I asked for pethidine. I suppose this must have helped a bit but the contractions were still very painful. I felt the urge to push not long after that but I didn’t want the mw to examine me so I waited for another half an hour before I told her and at 3.20am I was 10cm and so began pushing.

Chip had a very long first stage with Edward
That night was horrible - the contractions were every 5 minutes and quite intense, I was absolutely shattered from not sleeping the night before but there was no way I could sleep so I spent the rest of the night pacing the house.

Kiwi's Georgia was born at 36 weeks
Once I got there I continued on the TENs machine, a birthing ball and tried gas and air briefly until another internal at 11.40 had me at 7 cm... at this point it was starting to become unbearable - Gas & Air did nothing for me, so I asked them to tee up for a mobile epidural... which was hooked up and working by about 12.15 and I had apparently gotten to 8 cm...

CarrieF had an unexpected homebirth with Madison
I got out of the bath and tried to get dressed I got as far as putting a t shirt on, Lee had phoned his mum to come and sit with Joe and then came back up to me at which point I was nearly screaming with the pain , Joe got out of bed and wanted to know what was going on, Lee told him the baby was coming and took him downstairs, at 6am Lee’s mum arrived and Lee decided to call an ambulance as my contraction’s were now only 30 second’s apart, I asked him not to but for once he didn’t listen to me (and I was so glad afterwards), I was still stuck on the toilet, Joe was downstairs with his Nan feeling very scared because mummy was screaming and he sat with his finger’s in his ear’s.

Andie wasn't convinced she was really in labour with Ethan
I got my VBAC!!!

Chicken's DD arrived by VBAC on the day she predicted she would
Although I was still worried at this point worried it was false labour. Put my TENs machine on. She arrived at 4.45am and we headed off to the hospital in our car with a smashed windscreen. I was scared it would smash all over us so I decided to wear my sunglasses although it was pitch black which has to one of the funniest moments. DH said he didn’t know if he was driving a celebrity Mum to be!!

Sam had a very positive experience with Aidan
Got to the hospital at about 2:00 after having the most uncomfortable car journey of my life. Got out of the car and had 5 contractions between the car and getting to the delivery suite. Had two contractions whilst trying to get through the drunks in A&E which was a bit embarassing as it all went quiet .

Luca's birth was a hospital record for Natashattc2000
I remembered one thing from those antenatal classes – breathe long and deeply from that canister. I was supposed to stop between contractions but there weren’t any gaps – I seemed to be stuck in an ultra-fast spin-cycle of continuous contractions. How on earth did I think I would be standing or squatting or gently swaying at this point? The only thing I could do was squeeze Enzo’s hand. Hard. Very hard. Not hard enough… I am already gasping for an epidural and feeling pathetic.

LisaJH was secretly in labour with Lucy
In the evening of the 10th, I had a bit of a show and then the morning of 11th the contractions started just as DH had gone to work. I decided to be sensible and write down when I got them, how long they lasted and if they were front or back!! It carried on all day, my friend and my mum came around, DH came home from work and we went to see SIL for her birthday. All the time the contractions were getting stronger but we didn’t let on to anyone that the baby was on it’s way!!!

Helenc had another c-section for Adam
Once in the pool, which was much warmer that I thought it would be, I felt a little more ‘relaxed’. The gas and air, which I had been on for a little while was still needed. In my eagerness though, I pulled the tube off the mouthpiece on more than one occasion, resulting in me shouting to hubby that I wanted GAS, NOW!!!

Loops had a ventouse birth with George
However, the worst thing was that I had started to get an unbearable urge to push with each contraction, which now seemed to be coming one on top of the other. This must have gone on most of the morning and then finally the anaesthetist arrived and put the epidural in – bliss! I really was like a different person and all the pain and pushing sensation went in what felt like a split second. I had been a bit sqeamish about what an epidural involved but I really didn’t notice any of the needles etc being put in – I was just so happy to be pain free! I spent the afternoon chatting to the midwives and having a doze.

MJ's birth went exactly to plan with Mia
By 2pm I was in the pool, and the warm water really relaxed me, it seemed quite quickly that we got to the pushing bit but I found it very hard to push (unlike with Yasmin where I couldn't *not* push).

MJ had a serene water birth with Yasmin
Apparantly she opened her eyes and had a good look round. The midwife who is very experienced in water birth said she that never before had she seen a baby open their eyes before the body was born !

Anitaanon found her birth with Kyle more 'violent' then her previous birth
Labour trotted on, tried various different positions, it got to about 11am, and I was surprised not to have a baby yet – as I’d had lyra much quicker! After reading my birth plan, Lena suggested I tried the pool, and I thought that sounded like a good idea. It was very quiet in the hospital that day so we pretty much had the run of the place.

MadameMoo had Darcie on her birthday
My waters broke just after midnight on Thursday October 17th. We had been sat up til really late telling each other how awful we thought we'd be when the time eventually came, so it was perfect comic timing really! I'd woken up needing the toilet so when I felt the first trickle I thought I'd wet myself. I started crying at Toby saying "I've wet the bed" then realised what it really was and Toby went on a mission to get credit for the phone (we were so unprepared lol) then called the hospital and we were told to go in!

Nat had a dream home birth with Ryan
Got to the hospital at 9 am the latest, and didn't leave till 12 midday, due to waiting for a doctor. When the docter came to give me the swab, my hubby jokeingly pointed out when they needed a bigger device as I had already had a child that a car jack might work well, which had the midwife and myself in giggles.

Jardack relied on gas and air during her labour with Siobhan
Went home and trickled all day (very annoying!). At 4.45 I had my first contraction and then another at 5.45. They weren't painful or lasting very long so ignored them. This continued all night so I went for a bath (eventually after getting in a dither about clary sage and having to run two baths!!!)

Wicket had an episiotomy when she had Joseph
I didn't get very far before I threw up, but managed to ask someone to get a bowl from the nearest ward first. I had loads of porters and nurses passing me in the corridor asking if I was OK and suggesting I went back to delivery suite quickly and offering to take me in a wheelchair!!!

NickyK's twins Jake and Edie arrived after a calm c-section
After a while they became so strong that I was having to breathe through them and even pant, still thought they couldn’t possibly be labour as they weren’t that far apart. Eventually called the midwife who basically said I was a divvy and yes, I was in labour and they would get a doctor to examine me.

Vix had a fantastic vbac experience
I made the midwife laugh because she had just sent another midwife off to get the episiotomy set and reckoned I must have heard her and decided to get Bryony out quick!

Katiewombat had a straightforward natural birth with Damon
I tried to eat about midday, but I couldnt. By 1.30 I decided I really couldnt wait for my consultant appointment at 3.30, must be honest contractions were only 45 secs apart, but it was only when one makes me scream a bit I decided I should ring delivery. Anyway off we went.

Izzyp had a vbac with Poppy
I tore slightly but it was an amazing experience. DH was in tears and kept saying how proud he was of me. And all the midwives came in to congratulate me on having a natural birth. I felt like an Olympic gold medallist on a victory tour when they wheeled me back to the ward as my midwife kept telling everyone she saw that this is Liz and she’s just had a natural birth all by her self after she had a caesarean last time!!!

Diane8005 pushed out Josh all by herself
So Robert brought my bag up and we got all set for baby to arrive. I was checked over at 11am wednesday and they said I was dilated enough to have my waters broken so off we went to delivery and have the deed done, which I must admit was very uncomfortable .

Diane8005's Rachel arrived swiftly after being told she was 5-6cms
I basically crawled back to the bed about 3:10 I think and at 3.45pm they were very bad and I couldnt stop pushing so the doctor examined and said that I was only 5 to 6 cm dilated and my contractions were moderate (I could have hit her.)

Frootbat had a speedy second stage with Jacob
The MW came back in and said she couldn't find a MW from my team so I'd have to put up with her, I didn't care who my MW was I just wanted anyone to give me DRUGS, she said to get on the bed and she'd examine me, she'd given me the gas and air at this point, I said its not working, ITS NOT WORKING, she said it is breath deeply, with the contractions, it worked then, she poked about a bit and said I was 10cms dilated and said did I feel any pushy feelings, I didn't, then I did it was an incredible feeling so powerful (I never had it like that with Adam)

Kirkwood's Imogen was the wrong way round during labour
At one point the consultant came in and told my husband - out of my earshot - it may be a forceps delivery or C section if she didn't turn.

Anne had Molly peacefully at home in water
I cannot describe the amazing feeling of completeness when everyone had visited and eventually gone home and left the 3 of us cuddled up on the sofa - a proper family!!

Welshie was reluctantly induced with Dylan
At about 10.30 one of them took me by surprise and I threw up all over Mr W's feet ! (I'm never sick so was a bit of a shock)

Flumptious had a very positive experience with Catherine
I’ve sometimes heard labour and birth compared to running a marathon. Well, I’ve done both in the last 18 months, and giving birth is faster and hurts less! But then, I did have a particularly good birth this time, and I had a particularly bad marathon!

Bunch's Evan arrived at a roundabout
So he pulls over on the side of a roundabout and rushes round to the back door, I turn onto my back, I haven’t got much room because of Lewis Car seat. And Dale says “The heads out, I said to Dale “Do you know what to do????” and he yells back “nooooo”

It was third time lucky for Midge's homebirth!
At around 4pm I felt a huge pop, felt like my bits were tearing open and felt something drop down out of me and was utterly convinced I'd had a serious uterine prolapse I quickly realised this wasn't the case as I felt like someone was driving a flaming double decker bus through my minnie at break neck speed.

Midge's homebirth didn't go to plan with Flynn
Ian arrived at 9:30 just as they'd decided I really was in labour (4cm) to find me bellydancing up and down the corridor as the labour ward was full and I really didn't enjoy being in labour on the antenatal ward, especially as the girls had nicknamed me darth vader (with my breathing).

Babikat's second birth was very different to her first
We were still in the day unit as there was no delivery room free. At 11am, I was transferred to the deliver suite by a lovely healthcare assistant, who hurtled down the corridor at full pelt with me in a wheelchair, going round corners on 2 wheels, to try to get me to the room before the next contraction.

Kylie played the violin during her early labour
I went back home, and just puttered around. The pains were getting stronger and closer together but still not very regular. They were about every 5-7 mins. I couldn't talk through them very easily though. I had a little lunch, played my violin, and just kept busy. I was very relaxed.

Welshie had a succesful vbac with Taliesin
Those of you thinking of trying for a vbac - go for it. It hurts, but it's worth it!

Kathball used visualisation during her labour
On admission I was examined and found to be 5cm dilated and was offered a shot of pethadine which I said would be great as the contractions were getting pretty painful by now. I was dealing with them by deep breathing & visualising a beach in Portugal which we love and was taking myself there with a large cool beer each time the pain bit. Also crunching down hard on Mike’s hand then holding it lovingly to my face in between times – I did feel really reassured to have him there even though he felt pretty helpless but we were chatting about Portugal in between pains and things were actually really calm and relaxed as we thought we were in for a long haul.

JulieD's Dylan was in a bit of a rush
After that I dilated pretty quickly and just managed with gas & air & tens machine till I was 7cm then I was ready to push so had to have epidural at about 4 pm to stop this urge!

Babikat was induced with Alexander
By 6pm, when I was examined again, I was only 2cm dilated. I was using the TENS machine at this point, but found it to be more of a distraction than anything else.

Duchess was told at her scan her baby was a girl, Isobel
There wasn't really much to do then as I was on the theatre list for the afternoon so Phil and I just watched telly and chilled out. The doctor and anaesthetist came to get me to sign the consent forms and the midwife who was coming down to theatre with us brought Phil his scrubs and a gown for me and said we'd be going down around 3.30pm. We got changed at about 2.45pm and it was 3.50pm when they came to get us.

Locket got on very well with her midwives during Daniel's birth
My only reservation about transferring to the main delivery suite was that I'd lose my lovely mws but they managed to wangle it that both of them came with me so shortly after we trundled 20yds down the corridor. So glad they came with me as the contractions really took off then. They stuck as closely to my birth plan as possible, fended off as much intervention as possible and let me get on with it. When 40 minutes later I said I wanted to push they said go for it, none of this 'lets examine you first' malarkey. When 5 minutes later I demanded an epidural they listened to me and caled the anaesthetist who was unfortunately otherwise 'occupied'. Still not sure now whether that was true or not!

Nellie delivered Theo in the pool to her midwifes surprise
2am woke up with a pain; felt more like a contraction than previous nighttime pains, as could feel peak/fade. Waited for next one (no clock on my side of bed) it seemed about 5mins later. Went downstairs, got TENS out and was sticking it on when DH came down. We decided to time them a bit, then rang hospital. They said time them for 30mins and then come. After about 10 minutes we rang hospital again and rang minicab. Popped Eve into the cab to take to friends, she was a complete star, saying "We're going to Jane's house" and patted my bump and said "I want to meet you baby brother" I said "You are the best baby in the whole world" and she said "No I not, I'm a big girl!"

Littlesheep was induced for suspected pre-eclampsia
On Saturday 15th May my blood pressure was high again and I had + protein in my urine so I was admitted for induction. We got to the hospital at about 2pm and induction was started. The first lot of prostin increased my BH contractions and the second does was due to be given at 1am; I sent Daddy home as didn't see much point him being there too and thought he might be better getting some sleep! At 12.30am the started doing my monitoring for the next lot of gel but at 3am called off the induction as my blood pressure was stable and the delivery suite was very busy and they couldn't guarantee a midwife to be able to attend to me.

ClaireR's elective section was a lot more positive than her previous emergency one
It really was a morning of delays as when we got down to the labour ward a midwife had been taken ill and we had to wait til they found another one to take her place. In the meantime the anesthetist prepared and told us about the epidural and Dave got gowned up (in a pink hat as well to boot!). I was sitting on the edge of the operating table really uncomfortable though as the baby’s head was jammed into my ribs!

Click had a very, very long labour
Eventually I got v. cross and yelled that I really couldn't do it, they had to do something. So they got the doc who was totally lovely. She explained everything, and got to work. I had an episiotomy, we tried venthouse which popped off as samuels head was already too swollen from pushing.

Inkpen had a relaxed water birth with a scary ending
DH by this time wasnt at all concerned. He just wanted to sleep (until I said I need a poo and birth is meant to feel the same!! You've never seen anyone get out of bed and into the car fast enough!! ) But he was great throughout

Gabster had a water birth for Beth's arrival
Every time I flipped onto my back, I remembered why I was labouring on all fours (sore wrists and knees, but again, they would have been far worse on land) and flipped back again - soaking H and MW during both exercises!

JaneH had an elective section because Rebecca was breech
The anaesthetist was excellent – really reassuring, and talked me through what she was doing. She also managed to get the spinal block in first time which helped , then things started to feel really odd. I felt dizzy and sick and really out of it for most of the section, which was pretty horrible, to the extent that I didn’t really care when Rebecca was born – I was just thinking, 'get this over with and get me out of here'.

Nell was in for a long haul when she had Katie
We finally decided on her name, Katie Elizabeth, and asked whether they’d weighed her. The midwives had disappeared at this point so the anaesthetist and H put her on the scales. 9lbs 2oz. It wasn’t until we got through to the recovery room and the midwives weighed her again (being rather cross that the anaesthetist had done it already) that we found that they’d done it with her wet towel on and actually she was only 7lbs 15oz.

Dimple's Eve was in a rush to be out
Midwife examined me at 7am and I was 7 cm dilated so got the bedroom and everything ready and I got ‘comfy’ on the bed. Pains every 2 minutes but still only 30 seconds long.

Llama pushed for 3 hours trying to get Edmund out
But three hours later, I was still at it. We had tried every position imaginable; all fours, standing, sitting on the loo (!!), on my back, on my side, but no baby. Anne and Michelle could see his head, and they made me look in the mirror, in the hope that seeing him would help me. I was pushing like crazy, guzzling lucozade tablets but it never felt as if I would manage those last few centimetres.

Anna's birth was all a bit of a shock for Dimple
I manage to get down the stairs - not easy. Whilst M has had a got changed and sprayed himself with deoderant. Saying 'keep calm - but hurry up' as I take 10 mins to get to the car and sit down. ouch.

VBA2C was out of the question when Wotsit went into hospital
The doctor came in (must have taken about 3 minutes for her to get there) and said there was a problem and they needed to get the baby out, and now. She said with the pain I had, and the decelerations shown on the monitor in his heartbeat that it was obvious he wasn’t happy, and something needed to be done. Obviously a section, and obviously right now.

Reece's erratic heartbeat led to a c-section for MaryMc
The midwife checked me internally and said that labour could be a while off but it had begun. She left the monitors on me for a while and left the room, next thing the baby's heartbeat dipped to 80bpm, I panicked and got Leslie to get the midwife asap. She came back in, quickly followed by another and they looked very alarmed. They got a junior doctor to come and after some hush-hush words they told us things weren't looking good and that a section might be on the cards so they took blood etc to prepare me for it.

Narla missed out on her epidural
By 1.00am the rest of my birth plan went out the window. My Mum was doing a lovely job of massaging my back and Simon was holding my hands and giving me water after each contraction as the Entonox made me so thirsty, but I had had enough of the pain and was shouting for an Epidural. I was told the anaesthetist was on an emergency but I thought everyone was lying and told them so! Then I was telling everyone off for laughing at me and talking about me! And I am usually so placid…

Dinosaur's VBAC went like a dream
At about 5.15 I decided that I’d had enough of the pain, despite the contractions still being quite far apart and short, I realised I was a wuss, so I sent DH out in search of an Epidural.

EmmaH had a c-section for Finley due to placenta previa
Then the bad news came. They had decided because the c-section was higher risk then normal they wanted a Consultant to perform it and yes you guessed it there wernt any consultants around until the afternoon so we were told to get comfy and to wait.

Serendipity had her fourth c-section under general anaesthetic
On arrival I was told that I would be first as it was my 4th section and they took my blood pressure and monitired the baby. Unfortunantely, no.2 on the list started contracting so she went down first!

JulieD's labour and birth was very quick
Got to hospital at 6.15am and the midwife only just had time to take my trousers & knickers off

Nick spent some of her labour in the pub!
At the pub, I was getting some quite strong pains and they certainly seemed to be getting regular. I managed a starter and main course, but asked Matt if he's mind missing pud so I could go home & get in the bath!! So, we gathered up our son and other belongings and came home. Matt put Jacob to bed and then joined me in bathroom with his new watch to time contractions.

SallyW was induced at 37 weeks due to gestational diabetes
She gave me two options, to carry on as I was, although I could have been there for at least another 3 days (!!!), or have a c/s. We chatted it through for all of 2 seconds and decided a c/s was the only way to go. I knew that the baby hadn't moved, I could feel him still near the top of my tummy and just thought that mentally I couldn't go through another 2 hours never mind 3 days.

Torilar was surprised at the speed of her labour
The pains were getting stronger so I said to my dad to hurry up and get me to the hospital but he seemed more interested in finishing cleaning his fish tanks. It didn’t go down too well with me!

ClareyK gave birth to Rosie at home in water
retrospect, I also think that subconsciously I was feeling quite alone in the pool even though Mum, Sven and one of the midwives were always in front of me, encouraging me and rubbing my back. I was getting very upset and saying that I wanted to go to hospital for an epidural – I really did feel that if I was only 5cm dilated and couldn’t cope at this point, that I would be nearly dead by the time I got to 10cm! I felt terrified and lonely and angry that everyone was trying to make me stay at home. Mum and A kept saying how I wouldn’t like the ambulance journey, and I kept saying that I had to go in that minute then, so that it wouldn’t be so bad. In the end, A persuaded me to stay in the pool for one more hour, then she would examine me and we could decide what to do.

Unfortunately for Maisie, Jamie was happy at 6 cms
As I'd been stuck at 6cm for a while and things seemed to be slowing down, they phoned the main hospital, and unfortunately I was no longer deemed a low risk case and was told I'd have to transfer to the consultant-led unit to have a drip to get things going. Had a fun ride in an ambulance, with my life seeming to depend on the gas and air by this point.

Caterpillar's stayed in hospital for 12 days after her c-section
I knew all along that I would be giving birth by elective caesarean having been told in no uncertain terms that I stood a high risk of rupturing my uterus during normal contractions as the result of an open myomectomy I had two years ago at that point in time. In addition to that, Yara was in breech position as from 30 weeks, which somewhat sealed my 'fate'. Before anyone starts feeling sorry for me let me just point out that as far as I am concerned the above only helped me get what I wanted all along, as one of my biggest fears is to have to give birth vaginally.

Mudpaddle didn't enjoy Sam's birth at all
I was examined again at 4ish, after a really boring afternoon watching rubbish telly, going for the odd walk, and reading my book. The midwife thought I wasn't much further on, but got a registrar to come and examine me. After the most painful internal ever he said I was ready for ARM, and to go down to delivery when they had time. It was about 5.30 by now, and I was getting very bored, as was H. Contractions continued, and were fairly regular, and quite painful.

Mudpaddle almost made it to hospital, Ellie arrived in the footwell of the car
Got in car, shouted at H 'the baby is coming'. His reply was yes, thats why we're going to hospital...I explained I meant really coming...

SamD had a retained placenta after she gave birth to Rebecca
By now the contractions were really painful and coming every 5 mins. I was still using the TENS machine and by now I had it on about setting 38 but also decided to have a bath and see if that would help. While I was in the bath Ian went to get some food for himself (lamb dopiaza) and my Mum stayed with me while I was in the bath.

Poppet found Molly's birth very calm and rewarding
I started on the gas and air and visualised waves in my head...coming closer and closer to the beach...and then my blowing them away...Gord laughed his head off...not very supportive eh! But it worked..it sort of took me away from the pain...imagining I was sitting on the beach, blowing the waves away. i also found counting a big help....as the contration started , I began to count and I knew that by the time I got to 15, the pain would begin to decrease. It gave me something to concentrate on and kept me focused.

It took 5 pessaries to get Anna D-J's Valdemar out
Just before the anaesthetist arrived my BP was taken again and it was a whopping 218/120!!!! I remember this clearly, thinking "oh sh*t", and when the Dr arrived he was told to hurry up by the m/w. It took ages to give me the epidural (or at least it felt like ages) as we kept being interrupted by contractions and I had to sit absolutely still. After a little while the epidural worked, it calmed me down no end, it didn't remove the pain or make me numb as I had feared, but it did take the edge of the pain. I'm so glad I had one. I was now able to relax, lie still and I could cope with contractions on oxygen only.

MadameMoo mistook her early labour pains with Declan for hunger
By about 5.30 / 6ish I was in so much pain that I really couldn't cope anymore, we called the midwife back in and asked for an epidural. A mean old bag of a midwife told me I didn't need one if I would just use the entonox properly! Then - would I like a bath instead? No, because they don't help! So the next thing I know I'm off for a bath. Gas and air beside me the contractions did start to get bigger gaps between them and I managed to drift off between them. They were still really powerful and painful though so each time one hit me a torrent of swear words and general abuse came inexplicably from my lips! Straight in the firing line was Toby who got shouted at for eating hard boiled sweets noisily right next to my ear! Then it was the whole NHS system who were making me have a bath when I wanted an epidural! No-one could escape!

Patrick arrived safely after Leo's relaxed c-section
Things moved on slowly during Friday night & I dilated eventually to 8cms by midday on Saturday but that this point the doctor was ocncerned that the baby's head was getting squashed and not moving down enough for me to start pushing (this all made sense when we finally got the see the size of his head!! LOL)

Eva arrived on Kyliecat's Wedding Anniversary
The taxi didn't turn up cos it has been involved in a car accident!! So we called another one and arrived at the hospital at 6.30pm only to be told we had to sit in a room a fill out forms (which was hilarious as I couldn't write during contractions and hubby had to massage my back!). I then had to wait in the corridor with all the relatives until they were ready to examine me (with all and sundry walking by as I was having my back rubbed!!)

Theo arrived on Meerkats due date, April Fools Day!
started to think that I wanted an epidural, but as I was now at 8cms, the words of my NCT teacher rang in my ears (that having an epidural at that point slows everything down and is much more likely to result in intervention), so I cancelled the anaethetist and soldiered on with gas and air. My waters broke at about 7.30pm and I then thought that things would happen quickly......

Gemini was induced at 10 days overdue with Chloé
I went to the hospital at 6.00pm to have a hormone gel put on the neck of the cervix to try and start labour off. I had to stop overnight and at 10am the following morning there was still nothing happening.

Gemini was 2cms for 3 weeks with Tegan
By 1:45 I was 10cm and was told I could push. By this time I had been awake for the best part of 19 hours and was shattered. Then the lovely midwife told me I was pushing wrong and when I started feeling a bit sorry for myself, saying things like 'I cant do this anymore its to hard' , she said 'well its meant to be hard work thats why its called labour!'

Fraggle was induced after her waters broke
The next morning I woke up at 6 am, swung my legs over the side of the bed and my waters broke in spectacular fashion! I couldn’t believe how much fluid came out of me, sorry to be gross but it was absolutely everywhere, completely soaking the bed, carpet and anything within range!

Funkybubbles played darts during her early labour with Reece
When we arrived I was examimed and found to be 9cm dilated- ALREADY!! I was taken to the delivery suite, and by the time I got there I was ready to push. I only had time for gas and air, which made me feel really sick.

Estelle was anxious to give birth to the twins before her sister left for Guernsey
Can't remember much of the next 45 mins, except there was a fair flurry of people. Nice midwife, 2nd midwife was the same as at Kathryn's home birth, and then the 2 paediatricians. The registrar turned up dressed smart-casual, looking out-of-place, and I said "'oo are you?" accusingly. He was probably the most senior person in the wing and I treated him like scum! There was also an obstetrician who I remember a lot as he was telling me I ought to have the hormone drip and an epidural needle. We did spend an awful lot of time arguing or rather he kept saying "let us help you". What with an epidural? Didn't want that.

Candycloud dreamed of a baby girl
The fact that my waters had broken and I needed to be induced meant that half my birth plan was out the window - no midwife unit, or birthing pool, or moving around for me. They started me on my induction drip at around 7pm - by which time I'd been "waters-less" for 36 hours. Within 2 hours I was on the full dose of induction drug through a drip, and having contractions regularly, - about every 2 minutes. When I was checked again at midnight, I had gone to 4cm dilated. At this point, I asked for some morphine - just to take the edge off. (My hospital use morphine rather than pethidine).

A bleed at 38 weeks led to a trip in an ambulance for Sar
Midwife checked at 4am and said I was about 3-4cm and gave me some Pethedene... lovely stuff! She tried to rupture the membranes, but wasn't able to. Floated around for the next few hours while H rang everyone and my sister brought my labour bag and the baby bag.. By 7am the Pethedene was starting to wear off and I had some more at 8am. The midwife checked again but was only 4cm so she decided to try to rupture the membranes again. I can't believe how much this hurt... the worse bit by a long way.

Phil's husband got zapped by the tens machine
Our friends came and collected Oscar at about 10.30 by which time the contractions were still 5 mins apart but longer (45 secs) and stronger. As soon as he went it was as if my body knew it could get on with it and the contractions were starting to be really painful. Moray had already started filling the pool and started boiling kettles and pans to speed up the process. I decided that now might be a good time to put the TENS on; better late than never!!

Pajamaa had a straightforward labour but Liam was delivered via ventouse
I was told that I should have my baby by 1pm so H was dispatched to contact my parents with the news. I should add that I was also delighted to find that I would have my March baby after all - I had never really prepared myself for the prospect of going any further overdue and having an April baby.

GayleNbeanie hoped she'd be further along
Arrived at the hospital at 11pm, examined by a lovely midwife who tells me I was only 3cms. I was absolutly gutted and cried and cried. Mw tells me to go home and get a bath, cue me getting really upset and begging her to let me stay as we dont have a bath! She took pity on me as they were having a quiet night and let me stay.

Pollyjo turned up for an antenatal appointment in labour
There was a change of midwife shifts at 5pm, so my favourite midwife wanted to do another internal before handing over. At 5.30 (she stayed on a bit) she told us that I was fully dilated!! We were so gobsmacked as we didn’t expect it to be this quick!! However waters still hadn’t broken and Lucy was still quite high up. She offered to break the waters and we agreed even though my birth plan said not to break the waters. I was really tired and wanted it to be all over so felt happy for the waters to be broken. It felt like a really warm gush, which surprised me.

Nellie had to be treated for Group B Strep (GBS) during her labour
At one point I asked "Why am I not having and epidural?" The midwife said, "Oh, you can have it if you want" but I said that I wanted her to say, "It won't be long now, and you're doing so well..." so she laughed and said that. After a couple more hours it was time for a vaginal exam - the student did it first and said I was completely dilated. I was delighted, but midwife double checked and said I was 7cms. Gutted!! But she said it was effacing beautifully and very stretchy. "Couldn't you just stretch it that little bit more?" I asked. I really wanted to push, but they kept saying not to. Another hour or so went by and I asked if they'd check me again to see if I was fully dilated so I could push, but they said they'd check me in another two hours! Horror!

Cornflower was 8cms when she arrived at hospital!
Sasha was born at 5.18am after a 3hr 30mins labour. When we got to the hospital I was 8cms dilated. I had no pain relief and I made H massage my back this time!

Stormfairy went into labour 2 weeks early
I joked with the midwife that I was probaly only 1cm but I was in agony. She checked and I was slightly shocked to hear not only was I 3cm, but she could feel a bulging bag of water, oops, not any more as she accidently burst it all over the bed.

Kate d had a successful VBAC with Robert
The dr now threatened me with a ventouse if I didn't push the baby out in the next 15 mins. I don't think there was any danger, he was just trying to spur me on - and it worked. I was absolutely adamant (beyond rationality) that this baby was coming out unaided. I pushed like a mad pushing thing and 30 mins later he was out (I was allowed extra time for good behaviour).

Johanne hoped her sweep would avoid an induction
When we got down to the delivery suite, I was given gas/air straight away which was such a relief. Unfortunately, I was so pleased to have it that I over-inhaled and passed out a couple of times.

A cord prolapse could have been dangerous for Peach and Toby
At 10.10pm the midwife did another internal examination and to all of our surprise I was STILL only at 5cms however by now she could only feel one side of my cervix as a lump had appeared on the other. As she did not know what the lump was she called for the Senior Midwife who when examined me found even more bags of membranes still intact in front of the head. She burst them and suddenly shouted **CORD** and pressed the emergency buzzer. From here all hell broke loose, about 10 people dashed into the room, I was immediately turned onto all fours with the Senior Midwife continuously holding the baby's head up inside of me.

SallyA's repeat elective c-section went without a hitch
Sure enough, at 9.30am I was told to make my way to theatre, and the butterflies started then! I was rubbing my bump as I walked to theatre, feeling a little emotional as we’d already decided that Lyle would be our last baby.

MagsG was astounded to learn she was 8cms!
I was really scared and panicky by this stage as I pushed for 2 hours with Joel and had an episiotomy, was really sc. Midwife great at reassuring me this time would be different. Found it quite difficult to push and tried a few different positions, anyway out Katy came - mw poured warm water over my perineum at the time the head was emerging which helped too.

Pix's husband nearly missed Rebecca's birth
At around 10:30 the midwife came in with the monitor and monitored Bub for about 45mins, they came back and said the trace was fine and they would be along soon to examine me and put in the 1st gel. At 12:00 they came along and examined me (i felt like a cow on all creatures great and small) My cervix was very high and as 'unfavorable as they get', she could hardly reach it and had to brace herself on the bed to reach it (Much to DH's Amusment!!) They put in the 1st gel but told me not to hold out much hope of a normal delivery as they didn't think that Rebecca would engage. She was in the worst position possible (back to back and with her head at a funny angle) and if she did engage she would present face 1st (Ouch!!)

Ambyuk's doula helped her through her labour and birth
The urge to push was amazing, a contraction would start and I would feel a slight urge to push, so I'd bear down a little and then after a few seconds of that my body would take over, and push harder than I ever knew I could.

Penguin was induced early after her waters broke
Whilst lying on my side, I read the instructions for the Ivac printed on the side, and calmly informed the doc and mw that they’d overdosed me on the Sytocinon as the error message they were getting told them it was flowing too fast!! After a few embarrassed coughs, and a change of Ivac, I was then given the option of a CS (no way!) or to try the drip again, under close monitoring of E’s heart rate, etc and see how it went, no promises.

Alicat's SPD had to be kept in mind during labour
I was determined not to allow myself ‘psychologically’ into labour too soon because the Syntocin had taken 5 painful hours last time and I was preparing myself for a repeat performance. Chatted to ‘distract’ for about 1.5 hours after the drip went in at 9.30am like this before I got the Tens boost button in action. About mins after this I went for the gas and air (about 11.30am now).

Finlay chilled out during Honeybee's labour
My contractions were pretty close together right from the beginning - between about 4 & 7 mins apart & after a couple of reassuring phone calls to the hospital, the *magical* tens machine, and two warm baths, we stuck it out until 1.30am before we made our way to the hospital.

A very long labour ended in a dramatic emergency section for Sugar
Labour started at 8:30am on 30 Dec and went on for 24 hours, at which point several docs tried to break my waters only to discover that I had carelessly mislaid them....

Willowtree tried everything to get Ellie out
Ellie was due on feb 5th and of cause that date came and went - I then had many traces and hospital visits as Ellie seemed a bit to sleepy in the womb - I tried everything sex, bumpy car rides, LONG walks, pineapple, membrane sweep... and finally my contractions started 4.30am monday the 17th!!!!

Funkybubble's went into labour just hours after making an appointment to be induced
They didn't examine me again but said that when I wanted to push just to go ahead. I didn't need telling twice as I had an enormous contraction and the urge to push was unbearable. There was a huge pop and my waters broke and the head was just crowning at the same time as they were breaking.

Dueb gave birth with Tracy from Coronation Street
At 6pm I conceded the second game of chess. Looking back, Richard really was mean trying to beat a woman in labour at chess.

Wotsit was shocked to learn Aurora was a girl
They wheeled me into the theatre, and I just remember it being so bright! They put the screen up, and it was so close to my face, it was practically touching it. They made Mr W wait in the other room while they got me settled. I panicked not being able to see him. Once they got the screen up I couldn’t see anything, I had to lean my head back and really peer to be able to see one person stood behind me keeping an eye on my bp.

Spot's Birth Plan went straight out of the window
At 10am I was examined again, and considered to now be 'in established labour', as I was now having regular contractions. Woohoo - at last! Around this time, Hayden had his worst heartbeat dip, dropping to a scary 50bpm, and lasting for what seemed like ages. I had loads of people rush in and throw me around on the bed, from one side to the other, making me breathe huge gulps of oxygen. After what seemed like an age, his heartbeat came slowly up again, and eventually stabilised at a normal rate. They don't know for sure what caused these dips – but they thought it might have been the cord around his neck, and throwing me around untangled it - as that was his last dip.

AlisonH begged for an epidural, but she was too late
I was so so so so so frustrated by this point (11pm) but the lovely midwife, who by the greatest of luck and timing was also my community midwife, said that she wasn't going to mess about and broke my waters. This superspeeded up the contractions and an hour later I was begging her for an epidural. She laughed and said that I was already 6cm dilated and I wasn't going to have time for an epidural and pethadine was also looking shady as she said delivery would take a lot longer and I'd be pushing for hours. Gas and air for me!!!!

KasB had a speedy induced labour
By 5.00 I had the urge to go to number 2!! And aparently was screaming at my mum and DH that I wanted an Epidural and to get nurse as I was in so much pain. Midwife came in, saying "you won't have changed much pet, I'll sort out the Epidural", she checked me just in case and said to an astounded me that I was ready to push if I wanted as I was 9 and half cm!!! So I did that, within 5 pushes she was out and that was that!

Choc had a fantastic late Christmas present!
At 4am she examined me and Ella's head was already half way down the birthing shute. After 40 minutes of pushing and a lot of "I cant do this" and "I want to go home" Ella Victoria shot out across the bed and was placed in my arms! At 5.22am on Sunday 29th December;cue sobs from me and one last vomit! I had a few tears but no stitches were given.

Kieron's arrival was quite dramatic for Gemini
The syntocin drip was officially switched on at 12.30 and with the epidural failing with my 1st baby I never bothered with baby2 or with this one, tried the gas and air a bit but hated it, as is usual with syntocin the contractions come very hard very fast and by 1.30 I was asking for pethadine, the doctor then came in as they had difficulty monitoring baby’s heartbeat and the decided on a scalp clip, so the doctor goes gets the bits they need for the clip comes back and proceeds to put the clip on his head – the most painful thing I’ve ever had done, she also tried to shove the gas and air in my face and I swear if it had been in a bottle not in the wall I'd have thrown the canister at her. The pethadine starts to take effect at about this point too!

Becka's Alexander arrived after a successful induction of labour
Took a bath at about 7.30pm as my tummy was hurting quite a lot. The warm water was amazing and made me more determined to use the pool when I did go into labour. Tried to do some reading and then tried to get some sleep but the pains were quite intense, but still fitted into the category of prostin pains as they were coming every few minutes and lasting about 15 secs. I was so lonely at this point as my mum and DH had gone home.

PippaH had her twins by C-section at 36 weeks
By the thursday I was told that due to the combined risks of my blood pressure, the emergence of the twins to twins transfusion and the fact that Twin II was lying in a high transverse position (i.e. across my bump) a caesarian was the safest option and an elective one was provisionally booked for the monday morning subject to the scan being ok on the friday which it was. I was also told that if the babies started behaving erratically which would be picked up by the twice daily heartbeat monitoring or I went into labour, an emergency c-section would be carried out over the weekend.

JoanneL had a very speedy labour with Maddie
At 1.20 I asked for a pethidene jab, which they agreed to give me and was told it could take around 30 minutes to take effect. At 1.35 my waters broke and the urge to push was immense. I pushed with all my might at this point to get Maddie’s head out,.......

Midge laboured at home to begin with
At 3am I decided that I really felt ready to go into hospital if we'd planned a hospital birth (the point when the midwife said we should call), so we called the midwife who came round and declared I was 4-5cms and could get into the pool, which I ran into with the most agility I've had in a year !!! it was absolutely heaven and took literally 95% of the pain away, it was so nice bobbing around in our own home, chatting to the midwives, eating toast and watching the sun come up, really relaxing.

Anita Anon had a nice gentle start to her labour
I went for a walk into the village and felt the odd cramp as I was walking, but they weren’t very painful, and I didn’t really take too much notice of them. A few hours later, while sitting chatting on the forum, it suddenly occurred to me that the cramps were coming fairly regularly. I asked mouse (who I was chatting with) to count the intervals and durations, and they were coming every five minutes, and lasting about ½ a minute. I thought I’d better just contact Mr Anita and let him know what was happening, although they still weren’t even as painful as period pains – and nothing like the Braxton Hicks I’d had earlier on.

Amanda McL delivered Molly with the help of a ventouse
They mentioned a c-section first, then forceps but I insisted - or rather Robert insisted for me - that they at least try ventouse first. They agreed to this, as long as I accepted that if that didn't work she would move straight on to forceps. This was probably the worst bit - loads of people suddenly appeared - there were three midwives, the registrar, a paediatrician and, for some reason, the anaesthetist.

Becky W was induced due to low iron and platelet levels
We called the hospital at 5pm on Wed 30 Oct to see if they had a bed free for me and they did, so went on in, getting there for about 6.45ish. The midwife came and booked me in and questioned why I was being induced now rather than at 10 days overdue, so I just said that’s what the consultant said and explained my theories why! I was put on the monitor for 40 mins whilst they decided what to do with me.

Chick had a positive induction when she delivered James
Hubby left at about 9.45pm and I had 2 shows at 10.30pm. Got up next morning (after no sleep at all due to the hot weather) at 7am and I was taken to the delivery room at 7.30am to wait for hubby and to have a bit of brekkie. He got there at 8am and I was asked if I wanted to just wait and see if anything would happen on it's own (could be days) or if I wanted Syntocinon to speed things up.

Anne IJ gave birth to Marsaili in a birth pool at home
The other midwife hadn't attended a waterbirth before, was there for the experience, so she seemed a bit shocked! Was wonderful though, as I picked her up and lifted her above the waterline, and she took her first breath, and David and I discovered she was a girl. Midwife came back! We also realised the cord was quite short, so David held me up, as I held the baby and the midwives clamped and cut the cord.

Fay gave birth to Brendan in record time!
Steve went downstairs to make himself a cup of coffee while he waited thinking that we would have plenty of time. I followed him downstairs and by 1.30am I said that I thought the contractions were coming too fast. He asked if I would manage until his mum got here. At 1.35am my waters broke. It felt like someone popping a balloon. Steve went and got towels so we now had the stereotypical hot water and towels!

Rachel spent her early labour with Ben chatting on her PC!
We went home first and then to my parents house to drop Alice off just in case anything did happen. By the time we got home I just had mild cramping so I couldn't sleep...so while Tom packed for me I sat on the computer talking to some Americans all about labour and stuff. At about 3am I decided to try and go to bed but I was so uncomfortable and by then the contractions were coming about 6cm apart.

Lusciouslu thought that Leanne would be born late........
So then at around 8pm I had a bath to see if these were the real thing and indeed they were - I phoned the labour ward to let them know things had started and got up on the bed to put on the TENS machine....it was all on when I had a stronger contraction and thought I'll just wait until the start of the next one so that I can prepare myself and WOOOOSH! my waters broke.

Olly's unstable lie meant a C-section for Sally A
When I reached 36 weeks, my doctor checked me over, and confirmed that Ollie was still breech. I was booked in for an appointment with my consultant at 37 weeks to discuss our options. By this stage, I was convinced I would be having a c-section, and did more research on how to help my recovery.

Julie_d thought she would have to be induced.....
I was 8 days over my due date when i went to see midwife and she discussed induction with me which i wanted to leave as late as possible, ideally up till day 14 or 15 but hospital could only do induction on day 10 which i thought was abit too soon and i wanted to go to the 14th day to see if he would arrive on his own.

Esther had the perfect birth....
Everything went much better than I had dared dream about – basically no pain relief, 5 hour labour, I only tore slightly and no need for stiches. Even the midwife was very impressed and during the next days all the staff seemed to know about my “perfect” labour.

Duchess gave birth to a healthy 8lb 12oz baby girl following her C-section
Eleanor Grace Benson was brought into the world by a fantastic medical team at 17.59 on Saturday 17th August weighing a healthy 8lb 12oz. We were both overjoyed at the fact that we had a daughter and my instinct had proved right – I’d said all along that I was having a girl.

Nicky P gave birth to Alice after an 11 minute Second Stage
It was such a different experience from first time - a small graze which wasn't even worth stitching, was home just 20 hours after delivery and Alice was really interested in feeding. However, if I do go on to have another baby, I think I'd still ask for an epidural again although Mr P has mentioned homebirth for that! I did take raspberry leaf this time, which I didn't last time so that's food for thought.

Nick found giving birth to Jacob a very positive experience
"The same mw as before looked at me as if I was wasting her time but examined me anyway! I think we were all shocked when she said I was 9.5cm!! At this point she offered me entinox which was great stuff!! She then broke my waters which was a weird feeling, but totally painless and we had to wait as I had a lip on my cervix...."

Ellen's Rebecca was determined not to arrive on time...
"On the Monday I turned up at the hospital at 2pm and was waiting until 5pm for a doctor to come and examine me. I hadn't dilated so they gave me one lot of prostin. Later that evening the midwifes thought I would be in pain and tried to force pain killers down me but I still wasn't having any nigglings let alone pain."

Ellen was hoping for a more planned birth with her second baby, Alice...
"I was so excited when I found out our second baby was due on 30th January 2002 but I was concerned about the delivery. I really didn't want to go past my due date again - I didn't cope too well with it with Rebecca, and I definetly didn't want to be induced again...."

Emma gave birth to Cerys at home after an 8 hour labour
"I got back from the hospital at about 3pm and started to feel a bit achy. By about 4.15 I was having pretty bad low down pains and decided to have a bath... On getting out of the bath the pains kept coming so I put my nightshirt on and went downstairs to make sure all the homebirth kit was to hand. The midwife, Gillian was lovely - very matronly with a wicked sense of humour. She did the assessments and was pretty certain this was real labour...."

Louise76 had an uncomplicated birth with baby Nicholas after having her waters broken...
"I was so stroppy the shift change midwife got me some gas and air, so she could examine me - but you could tell she was 'humouring me'.... I'm afraid to say I was very naughty and decided I wasn't going to push my back hurt and I was tired, and i figured they could just get on and do a ventouse or something! Sadly for me Monica the midwife had other ideas and at 11.45 she said ' you needn't think I'm getting a doc to do a ventouse when his heads in and out like a mouse out a hole'"

Locket's Adam was born with the umbilical cord wrapped round his neck
"I had stopped working at 36 weeks and had great plans for my 4 weeks of maternity leave. However things didn't go to plan as my son had other ideas! I woke up on Thursday Oct 11th with a mild tummy ache and jokingly said to my husband that maybe labour was about to begin. This ceased to be a joke half an hour later when I had a show and the ache was still there..."

Kedi's Jake arrived safely still in his sac after a four hour drug-free water birth
"Slept between contractions in the bath - the peace between contractions was wonderful in the bath, although the pain of the contractions wasn't as good as out of the bath. But the time just whizzed by - I'd nod off, wake up for six to ten breaths, then nod off again. I don't think I was totally conscious during a lot of the contractions either. I remember it being 5am, and 6am."

Doodles tells us about her Epidural when she had Adam
"Eventually at 12.30pm can start pushing......keep being told they can see head so spurred on but nothing happens, at one point Adam's heart rate dropped and doctors swooped but it picked up again. Eventually after 3 hours pushing in various positions they decide to try ventouse so epidural topped up, episiotomy and away they go...unfortunately ventouse wouldn't attach as his head too swollen so forceps mentioned.....the one thing on my birth plan in big bold letters was no forceps...would rather have caesarean...."

An induction at 39 weeks due to pre-eclampsia leads to an emergency Caesarean Section for Max
Max writes: "It had not been a very enjoyable pregnancy.... I was induced on Friday 6th April, a week early, due to pre-eclampsia (high blood pressure, lots of water retention and protein leaking into urine). They inserted the pessary at 12 o'clock and I started having contractions at 3 pm. They didn't hurt much though and at this point I thought labour was a piece of cake...."

Helen gave birth to Luke by emergency Caesarean as a Tornado passed by...
"At 4.45pm all of a sudden I felt damp so I went next door to the bathroom. I was shocked to see blood – my heart was beating so loudly I was sure everyone next door would hear! I was sat on the loo and felt a small lump pass and though “Oh crumbs (or something like that) it’s the plug”. The bleeding continued though and I was just beginning to get worried when Colin knocked on the door to ask if I was OK. “No” I quivered back...."
