I was 2 days overdue when I went into labour at 3am Sunday morning but my waters didnt break until 2am the following day. It was only after this happened that my surges started coming thick and fast and we were off to hopsital. At 5am I was 4cm dilated, so it was straight into the birthing pool and it was bliss. In the background we were playing the music from my relaxation tape, which really helped me to breathe with the contractions.
At 9.40am I was ready to push and at 10.50am the baby's head was born. Apparantly she opened her eyes and had a good look round. The midwife who is very experienced in water birth said she that never before had she seen a baby open their eyes before the body was born ! One more surge and she came out completely, the midwife scooped her up and she gave a cry as she was lifted out if the water but then immediately calmed down and had a good look around at her new world.
She was given straight to my arms and we sat in the water with H alongside us for half an hour untill the umbilical cord stopped pulsating and then she went off with him for a cuddle and a clean up, while I had a couple of stitches.
Yasmin was 7lbs 5oz and had lots of black hair, huge dark brown eyes and her fingernails & lips were ruby red: she was the most beautiful thing I had ever seen.
