<-- Back to the list of birth stories
I went into hospital on 28 december to have my labour induced, because I was 10 days overdue my edd by scan.
I went to the hospital at 6.00pm to have a hormone gel put on the neck of the cervix to try and start labour off. I had to stop overnight and at 10am the following morning there was still nothing happening so the midwife broke my waters this took 2 attempts.
I was then left for 2 hours to see if that would start the contractions off and it didnt so at 2pm (4 hours after my waters were broken) I was put on a hormone drip (as I was when I had Tegan) to get the contractions coming regularly. That started to work within about 30 minuites, and then I started to dilate.
After about 3 hours like this I was told that the baby probably won't be born until about 10ish this evening, as I was only 5cm dilated. The pain started to get really bad at about 5.30 and at 6.pm I had one shot of pethadine to help with the pain.
About 7.ish I said that I wanted to push and was told that I wasnt dilated enough and that I should wait. At 7.30ish I said again that I wanted to push so they examined me and said that they could see the babys head coming down and then after a few more good pushes the babys head was born. The midwife said the cord was around the babys head so she had to cut it right away, and then at 7.50pm Chloé was born. She weighed 8lbs and 15oz and looked more or less identical to Tegan.
After being stitched up and having a shower the midwife took me and Chloé up to the ward and Martyn went home looking tired.
