"My EDD date is different to the one on my notes, why?"
Quite probably, the EDD may vary by a couple of days either side. If it varys wildly, (By over a week) and it's not as a result of a dating scan you may want to check that your Doctor or Midwife has the correct date for your LMP.
Reasons the result may vary by a couple of days either side include:
  • You're not sure of your LMP date and may have given slightly different dates.
  • Doctors tend to use big wheels (Like those "magic decoder rings" you get in kids cerial packets) to work out the EDD quickly - they may not take into account leap years.
  • You gave a "known" ovulation date rather than an LMP date - Doctors and Midwives only use your LMP date (Or the results of a dating scan) as that's the only date they can be certain about. Most people don't know for certain when they ovulated.
Remember, the EDD is an estimate - most people don't know exactly when their baby is going to turn up. It all adds to the excitement!
